Who is V-Day Les Grottes, Geneva 2014?

V-Day Les Grottes, Geneva 2014 is a group of community members in Geneva who believe violence against women and girls should end. Our directors, performers and other V-Team members are all hardworking and dedicated volunteers, who are devoting their time and energy to be part of the global V-Day movement.

V-Day Les Grottes, Geneva 2014 is delighted to be producing three benefit performances of The Vagina Monologues on March 28 and 29, 2014. The shows aim to raise awareness and fundraise for local charities addressing the problem of domestic violence in Geneva.

This project has been made possible thanks to suppport from the Ville de Genève.

The Vagina Monologues

The Vagina Monologues is based on V-Day Founder/playwright Eve Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women. With humor and grace, the piece celebrates women’s sexuality and strength. Through this play and the liberation of this one word, countless women throughout the world have taken control of their bodies and their lives. For more than a decade, The Vagina Monologues has given voice to experiences and feelings not previously exposed in public and brought a deeper consciousness to the conversation around ending violence against women and girls.

The award-winning play introduces a wildly divergent gathering of female voices, including a six-year-old girl, a septuagenarian New Yorker, a vagina workshop participant, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and a feminist happy to have found a man who "liked to look at it".

The Vagina Monologues will be performed on March 28 and 29, 2014. Unique to the spirit of Geneva, all three of our performances will be bilingual in French and English. For tickets, click here.

“If Ms. Ensler is the messiah heralding the second wave of feminism, and a lot of people think she is, it is partly because she’s a brilliant comedian…The audience…was overwhelmingly adoring.”

-The New York Times

"The most exhilarating part is, no kidding, her extremely virtuosic way with a series of orgasmic moans…Ensler, a writer-performer with a good-natured but seriously evangelical mission about this body part, must be enjoying her success in getting the word out on such a legendarily unmentionable, mythologized and misunderstood fact of life…”

-NY Newsday

“Ensler breaks taboos by talking, talking and talking some more—stripping fear and shame from what she celebrates here. It makes for quite a party. Funny, outrageous, emotionally affecting, and occasionally angry…The Vagina Monologues confront words to demystify and disarm them. In so doing, Ensler disarms the audience too.”

-Associated Press

“Spellbinding, funny, and almost unbearably moving…Written with a bluntness that is nevertheless intensely lyrical, it is both a work of art and an incisive piece of cultural history, a poem and a polemic, a performance and a balm and a benediction.”

-Variety
